The Sharp Firm: A Legacy of Experienced Legal Counsel

In 2001, Rex A. Burgess founded a plaintiff’s practice in Macomb County after many years as the managing partner at Macomb County’s largest law firm. Since then, the firm has grown and become a premier employment practice, providing advice and counsel to the hard-working people throughout Michigan. Since Rex’s passing in 2018, Richard J. Sharp has joined the firm as a partner providing his skill and experience in tax matters, particularly as it relates to cross-border advice.

The Sharp Firm provides advice and counsel on all Michigan employment and labor matters including employee contracts, unemployment appeals, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Family Medical Leave Act, employment discrimination, harassment, sexual harassment or discrimination, wrongful termination, civil rights, Fair Labor Standards Act, overtime claims, retaliation, union issues and severance review and negotiation.

For small businesses, the Sharp Firm can provide assistance on starting a business, selling a business, buying a business and the myriad of employment and labor laws that go with managing employees. With the addition of Richard Sharp the firm can provide tax planning and advice regarding a new business, current or future business or investment.

Joseph Golden, who has practiced employment law for 50 years, will continue to be a part of the firm and actively advocating for workers. Next year, Joe will take the reins as the President of the Macomb County Bar Association.
