Hazel Park School Board Accused of Illegal Scheme to Oust Superintendent

The Sharp Firm’s Heidi Sharp is representing Hazel Park Schools Superintendent Amy Wilcox following a lawsuit filed against the district’s school board. A Detroit News article by Jennifer Pignolet details allegations that four board members violated Michigan’s Open Meetings Act by privately coordinating their votes to authorize contract buyout negotiations with Wilcox — who has led the district for 11 years. The suit, filed in Oakland County Circuit Court, seeks a temporary restraining order to rescind the board’s March 16 vote. Heidi Sharp Named Chair of the State Bar of Michigan Labor and Employment Law Section

In January Heidi Sharp became the Chair of the State Bar of Michigan Labor and Employment Law Section at the Section’s Mid-Winter and Annual Meeting. The LELS is a vibrant section providing camaraderie and training to lawyers, neutrals and human resources professionals throughout the state.

At the Mid-Winter meeting she had the honor of presenting the Distinguished Service Award and welcoming the incoming council members who will be serving with her on the Council during the 2023-2024 year.

In April, as Chair of the Section, she moderated the ICLE Labor and Employment Law Institute at St. John’s Resort and presented the EEO Updates with her sister counsel Maria Dwyer of Clark Hill.
